Went back and re read the original posts. You are talking about Franklin and Roughead being top 5, I was talking about our two first round picks next year 2 + 2 = 5. Anyway moving on.

Can"t agree on your point "just as many decent tall position players have come through the rookie draft than have come from early National draft selections"

Of the 30 tall forwards I can think of 17 have been top 20 selections. A further 4 were 2nd round and 4 were father sons. Only 2 came via the rookie draft.

You have a greater chance of a player (tall or short) making it from selections in the top 20. Need multiple high picks, just like the strategy GWS is employing.

Might be the way to go as any 18 year old talls are going to be 4/6 years until maximum output. Getting Wright 3 years in gives the team an immediate lift and fits in the time frame of Cotchin and Martin being at their best. Only problem is cost. Will take more than just one First Round pick to get him.

Yes, Brisbane were also gifted extraordinarily generous draft concessions to build the team.
Voss, Black, Power, Akermanis, Brown, the Scotts, Lep.
If we could have had only one of those players, say Aka for example, we might have gone all the way in 01!

    Missed, by that much.

Just watched the Tigers v Bulldogs game R20 2013 - a FOX Footy tribute to Trent Cotchin..

Interesting to see the list changes for both teams since that time - we dropped down the ladder and they moved up to win the flag.
We won the game by 70 points!!! Since then 10 of the team that played that game have moved on and 9 of ours.

Those that remain from that game are:
Tigers - Cotchin, Conca, Edwards, B Ellis, Edwards, Griffiths, Grigg, Houli, Maric, Martin, Morris, Rance, and Riewoldt. (Deledio and White now with others clubs).
Doggies - Boyd, Campbell, Dickson, Johannisen, Jong, Murphy, Picken, Roberts, Roughead, Smith, Wallis. (Dahlhaus missed that game but played week before and after).

3 notable Tigers in that game who have retired were - Jackson, Tuck and King.
2 notable doggies were - Lake and Giansiracusa.

In 2012 we finished 12th, the Doggies 15th.

Interesting comparing their progression to a club that believes they are in the premiership window (not without good reason following 2013) .... but maybe, just maybe, when it comes to List Management, regardless of where we finish, we should always think like we have finished in 15th place.

The difference between us and the Bulldogs Lazza,is we took the money ball approach ,and they didn't ,they got earlier picks, and we got mid 1st round picks .
Im still stunned they won the premiership ,lm betting they won't do it 2 year's in a row.

Beveridge said the pre-season match when they thrashed Collingwood was when the players first believed the game plan could deliver success. No-one else believed.
Placing Picken in the goalsquare was a stroke of genius.
We do not have the depth at the moment to play Dustin forward all the time.

Best he stays in the midfield for a fair majority of games but resting forward more than he did in 2016. Caddy and Prestia should allow a little more goal square shenanigans for Dusty next year.

Something else not mentioned there is that about 10 years ago the Dogs realised that they would have a heap of Father-son's coming up to draft age so they set up a system to get them to the club as often as possible and to make them feel as comfortable and committed to the club as they could.
Libba, Wallis, Hunter, Cordy and others had a head start on other recruits elsewhere.
Hope we are looking at what is coming and doing all we can to get young Naish up to speed. This year should almost be his first type year at the club.

A very Merry Christmas to one and all.
I am slowly healing from the ravages of the past season.
Brett gone, Hardwick stays. Guess I will have to live with it.
This has been a very signifigant season that will impact next year signifigantly.
Anyway have a good one and may all of your Dea's be filled with Joy.

I'm surprised he managed to set up a facebook account.... if the posts are from him ... he has little chance in life ... clearly has had little education and has no social awareness...

    Good riddance ...

Maybe they hate Fyfe cos he s a clean skin ..
