    Seagulls v Tigers

Sunday 21 May @ Burbank Oval

If this was Nature World, I would expect this to be the equivalent of a draw. A few bloodied and mangled seagulls littering the floor, while the Tiger moves on in disgust at the constant scattering and wheeling of the remaining birds calling "Mine", who won't face the challenge.

It will be a tough game. RFC need this win to stay in the 8, and break the L3 streak. Willie, who are 3 & 2, want to assert their right to play finals again this year.

Will be nice to see Adam Marcon on the ground, even if it is in the wrong colours. He's been having a bit of a purple patch, but I'm hoping the divided loyalties put his game off a little.

Willies form to date has not set the world on fire, having played Casey for a 23 point win (Casey are not traveling well this year), a 30 point loss to Northern Blues, a 28 point loss as to BoHiDawks, an 88 point drubbing of the Lions, followed by a 91 point shellacking of the other 2017 whipping boys, Northern Ballarat.

Our boys on the other hand, have played 4 of the top 8, with 1 win, two narrow losses and a poor showing against the Borough.

Key to the game will be Centre clearances and stoppage work. The Gull's ruck Nick Meese has been the dominant ruck of the VFL, so Ivan(s) will need to intimidate, while Ballard, Towner, Miles and Lloyd, will need to dominate the clearances.

Willie are also miserly in defence, so the nippy forwards will need to crumb at Chol's, Marci's and Soldo's feet when we make our 50 entries

Expecting a good game with a Tigers win

And at half time - RFC 5:6 to 11:6

    Wood playing well

Ivan halving the ruck, but we are losing centre and stoppage clearances.

Willie are playing the wind much better.

Willie with the first. And a free kick for a push after the kick, gives them a bonus goal.

    Like they needed it...

Went along for 2 and a bit quarters. A quick review below.

Elton looked the best I have seen of him at VFL level. Played deep, worked hard, clunked some strong marks.
Moore did some nice things. The injury did not look good.
Mabs has skills. ...... Not sure what else to say. If I was to bet, he won't be on our list next year.
Ivan is cooked. Angry and cooked. He shares a similar view of the umpires to me and let them know. The up didn't know what to say. He can't bend. He did clunk a couple of marks.
Morro works hard. Does the team stuff.
    Taylor did OK.
Ben did well. Worked hard as a mid and presented well as a forward. Kicked a really good goal.
Jacob played well, both as an inside mid and as a forward when given the chance. He might have helped against GWS as the Caddy replacement and hit the pa is hard up forward.
Oleg.... Not his best day. Struggled.
Garth struggled early. Improved heaps after half time. Took some really strong intercept marks. Was thrown forward at times in the second half. Hit packs.
Silk... the enigma, when he gets it, is a class above, just doesn't get it enough. Played midfield. That's where he's best. Seemed better at the mix of inside and outside. Went when he had to.
Overall we had no idea how to play a sloping ground that was impacted by the wind. We played inside and tight and got beaten badly on the spread. Credit to the boys, they didn't drop their heads and kept fighting.

Batch played hurt. Was on one leg. Took some nice grabs but was struggling.
Tyson is quick. Flashed in and out. Tackled well and did some nice things.

Ohhhh and if umpire # 9 ever gets promoted above the VFL, God help us. Though Razor Ray will finally have competition for shortness and showmanship.

I dunno who that player is but surely 'Silk' isn't really the nickname of a Richmond reserves player is it ?

Please tell me you made that name up just now ?

He can take a grab and he can kick and hit really good passes. But awareness, knowing where to run, actually running there just doesn't happen. They were coaching him nearly fulltime from the boundary and were exasperated.

Second efforts at times and then just spectating. Just doesn't look as though he is part of the game.
