    FINDING THE BALANCE

A stronger recommendation for giving Terry Wallace a 5 year contract could not be found with his selection, role and field time given to young Will Thursfield.

Terry has successfully, with the knowledge of his ultimate goal and 5 year contract, found the balance between the gratification our members and players need and the eye for our ultimate aim.

We had used Chris Newman as our key defensive player on the opposition smaller goalkickers without great success over the previous 6 weeks. Matera, Welsh, Yze, Corrie and even Milne not only scored goals but did not help the sides flexibility and more positive use of Chris Newman.

Terry saw a long term future for our Rookie Will Thursfield and set him OLoughlin in his first game. Will played the entire game even after the Swans drew within 1 point with 10 minutes to go. The experience will be invaluable for Will and lets all hope for our Premiership aspirations in 2-3 years time. Ironically Newman was a star against the Swans.

Coaches with lesser tenures, coaches with lesser confidence in the direction they are going would simply not have selected or stayed with the kid.

This example is mirrored in many aspects of what we are doing in the football division. So when you see Hartigan omitted or you see a Rookie elevated or a strange draft selection, its all with the bigger picture in mind. The effect on our Budget may dismay some but it will be repaid in full in years to come

It was interesting during the break that after 4 straight losses there was not a murmur from Members or for that matter Directors, Staff or players. Again thanks to Terry you are being informed and believe in the direction we are taking.

    Things have changed at Tigerland.

Well said - for the first time in a long time there seems to be a bit of a long term vision about the club at the moment from an "on-field" as well as "off-field" perspective.

Yes, we can have some confidence in the medium-long term future. At least with TW and GM we have top people running the football department, and if in the end we don't quite make it, then it won't be due to incompetence, inability or lack of application on their behalf. Go GM!

Anybody that knows a lapsed RFC member should word them up that the time to get back on board is now, watching a Hughes Tambling Polo Raines or Foley emerging is what supporting a team is all about. Win or lose, every game these kids play is a down payment toward finals football and ultimate glory.

Well said Bay13. I dont mind if we lose, I just enjoy watching the kids put in and see their development. It really is excited times ahead for tiger fans. Not all the kids will come on, but many of them show great promise.

Keep it up TW and GM. We are behind you.
