2009 and 2011 seem like the only ones of note, Griffiths was prob looking like a gem back then
Id say only 2011 seems to be the big mess up
Hampson year we needed a ruckman then and there

Yeah we needed one then and there.....and couldn't find one.

Need to make the upcoming FA/trade/draft period a good one. A couple of ready made, quality talls should help push us up the ladder. The more I think about it the more I reckon Trengove is a really nice fit. He'd be 27, Victorian, durable, reliable KPD, has a bit of mongrel, can be thrown forward, has played well in the ruck and would be good support for Nankervis (Grimes can play on the smaller forwards and cover Trengove when he's rucking), we've tried to get him at least once before, he's a restricted free agent, we supposedly have cash to splash. I don't see a downside really.

Sam Reid would be 26, can play both ends, seems to be over his injury issues, Victorian, restricted free agent, sydney dropping off rapidly, would work well with Riewoldt.

Can get both without using a pick and we'd have a good 2nd ruck in the 22 which we haven't had for a long time. No need to give up a 1st for Schache and can bring in two 1st round talents via the draft plus young Naish.

Riewoldt, Reid, Nankervis, Rance, Astbury, Grimes, Trengove. That's a bloody good bunch of talls.

    FB:......Grimes......Trengove......Vlastuin
    CHB:...Astbury.......Rance.........Conca
    C:........B. Ellis........Prestia........Grigg
    HF:......Edwards.......Reid..........Caddy
    FF:......Rioli...........Riewoldt......Castagna
    R:.......Nankervis....Cotchin......Martin

Interchange from: Bolton, Butler, Lennon, Houli, Short, C Ellis, Markov, Lambert, Miles, McIntosh, Graham, Menadue, 2017 1st round pick #1, 2017 1st round pick #2.

Should be top 4 quality and could be a realistic chance of putting something like that together....

Just noticed Jasper Pittard is an unrestricted free agent. He can sometimes bite off more then he can chew but I like him. Line breaking half backs seem to be the match winners these days. Vic boy, could be a good cheapish option.

JJ still hasn't signed at the dogs. We'd probably be able to nearly double their offer. Would love him but can't see him leaving.

Zak Jones is out of contract at the end of the year. Gun. Cap squeeze at the swans too...

Reece Conca and Nathan Drummond have both been placed on the LTI list. Conca must be worse than first thought.

youd pretty much say those top 4 wont be seen at senior level this year
    Drummond obviously
Hampson obviously has huge problems with that back being out so long
Griffiths I think might make 1 more attempt at playing before retiring
Conca the story doesnt go well with that lisfranc and id doubt he will come back this year

Jack Graham down to two weeks. Excellent (although two weeks on Richmond's injury list is rubbery)

Tiggy back soon? Probably a managed return through the Twos. But, who would he replace?

He will come back through the 2's like Edwards did, thats the problem still with this team, the blokes who are deemed to be top guys dont seem to have to earn their spot or fitness back into the team they just get straight in after a fair absense.

If they definitely want him down back, Kam may spend more time on the wing, which could force Menadue out. But do they really want to tamper with our backline at present? Perhaps the question is not so much 'who would he replace?' as 'where can we best use his strengths?', and work from there.

Early in the year they indicated they wanted Vlastuin to spend more time in the midfield, so clearly they have others in mind for the backline. They also need to consider Conca's eventual (if ever) return.

In another thread I suggested they may want to use Vlastuin's big-bodied defensive abilities around the CHF area, both on the ground and in the air. He could play an unorthodox CHF role, almost tagging those elite tall intercept markers as well as blocking and crunching bodies at stoppages.

So it's not really about which like-for-like individual he replaces, but how can we achieve the best mix of strengths needed to win crucial games and go deep into the finals? Clearly someone has to make way for his inclusion, and that someone could be, say, Bolton. Not like-for-like, but maybe a win for team balance and experience. What Bolton provides can be covered by the other mossies, but what Vlastuin provides is in scarcer supply, and is desperately needed around CHF. Lloyd may stay in ahead of Bolton because the former has a proven ability to kick a match-winning goal after the siren.

I wouldn't be surprised if, after the bye, we ramp up weekly rehearsal and refinement of the game plan they believe can take us far. And that means putting the seasoned performers on the park who are going to make a difference in September.
