Good on Simon for eventually seeing the light.

The same was said of Clinton Casey during the lead up to the 2004 RFC board election, as though it somehow was a black mark against him. I've seen CC at games with his family in Richmond gear and it's obvious, as I'm sure it is with Simon, that he is a full-on Tiges man. I know of a few people who started out following another club.

Yep, but I think truth in advertising rules should apply. Saying you will represent the supporters who can't remember the club's time of success is fine if it wasn't for the fact that you were supporting another club at the time the club last won the flag.

But then BTC is a former tax dept type who wants to run a not-for-profit.

    Say what?

Thanks to the regular who alerted me to this post. I have a thick skin and have moved on from the election result, but I can't allow this slight on my character to stand uncorrected. I find it offensive.

I never have and never will support any club other than the Tiges. And I've been myopic since 1979, when I was 5. The very thought of even one person believing me to be an Essendon turncoat, or anything other than among the most passionate, lifelong Richmond fans, makes me physically nauseous.

In order of my most loathed opponent, Essendon is behind only Carlton for me. I despise them with the power of a thousand suns. I don't ever think I've felt differently.

If you didn't just make this up, I urge you to tell whoever furnished you with this crap that they have less than no clue.

    Yep

Another example of the facts getting in the way of a good story.

Well I'm sorry if I got this wrong, but the source seemed credible enough -- something to do with the ANU.

No, I got the facts right about PWC. Only a person can be a returning officer -- the email PWC sent out was misleading.

1979 was my first memory. A Tigs-Fitzroy game. I didn't come from a footy mad family, at all. Dad was notionally Essendon but ditched any real interest once Coleman retired. Nah, it's always been Richmond in my world.

I mean, how could you go for anyone else? I envy the success other clubs' supporters have seen, but I've never wished to follow anyone else. Just be nice to get a better return on our collective emotional investment, which has been immense.

    Cheers

Richmond hasn't needed the Taxation office to ensure it's NFP* status over the last 36 seasons.

*The P stands for Premierships. I'll let you all deduce what the other two letters stand for.

Horace: Here, I give you a toast. Here's to the future.
    Hilda: Our future!
Horace: Which now shows every sign of being exactly like our past.

The mailman was Simon's dad. Simon's simply forgotten that he used to support Essendon as a nipper.
