The Votes are in for Round 21!

Apologies for not updating the Leaderboard for a few weeks. The good news is that after Round 21, Dusty still has a winning lead over Rance who is still 3 points ahead of Cotch. Following is Astbury, Lambert, Prestia, Grigg, Nankervis,  Riewoldt, and Nick Vlastuin rounding out the top 10.

Don't want to make light of your serious health scare there Beast - but I'm guessing if you'd made it to 3/4 time that tear would have been around 7.5cm - but if you could have lived through the final quarter it would have repaired itself and you would have had a heart like Phar Lap's banging away in your chest when the final siren blew.

I'm pretty glad I signed up for the Maurice Rioli club a few years ago for the guaranteed grand final ticket.

    .....If we make it

Although we'll never know, I wouldn't be surprised if the guys who'd under-performed in previous finals got together informally before this match and made a pact that they were going to play with a higher level of effort and commitment than ever before. Players like Houli, Ellis, Edwards did things that weren't just 'more of the same'. eg the Ellis attack on Dangerfield (which I think subsequently diminished Ellis's own input). Then of course there was Cotchin's overall performance and his mesmerising goal. It just seemed like there was something else at play here, not just 'motivation' from the coach.

Interestingly, Deledio, who obviously wasn't part of this pact, continued to underperform in a final.

    Thoughts?

Jack Riewoldt mentioned that this attack by Ellis on Dangerfield was his favourite moment of the game.

Deledio had one below par final for Richmond...when he had 17 disposals and a goal v NM in 2015.

Think it was Wayne Carey on talking football also highlighted the Ellis Dangerfield clash and how 5 Richmond teammates ran over to see if he was ok and not one of Geelong players went to Dangerfield.

You could do worse, the story goes that Molly Meldrum was in the cheer squad back in '66 for St Kilda's one and only flag. Well, he says that it was so close in the dying seconds, with the saints one point in front, that he passed out just before the final and subsequently missed that sweetest of moments when the siren sounds and all supporters rise to celebrate the win.

Can't wait for that sweat feeling.. bring on the preliminary final and lets rock (pardon the pun) on to the Grand Final and flag

    Go Tiges!

I think much of the credit for the improvement in the whole team, and each player individually, is Hardwick's new defensive game plan.

It is more suited to their strengths.

Reminds me of a New Years down at Portsea where I was running out of time to get down to the action on the back beach and took one look at the herd of people who were barely moving in the crush on the tiny stairway that leads to the beach , so I figured I'd take a shortcut down the adjacent embankment.

Got my ambitions mixed up with my drunken capabilities and that embankment quickly turned into a sheer gradient.

By the time I got to the bottom my legs were pumping like Fred Flintstone and I failed to remember that there is a pesky wire fence separating the beach from the scrub. ( hence why everyone else was taking the stairs )

I hit that fence at 100 miles an hour.

Somehow it didn't slice me into three neat pieces , but I flipped over it like Nadia f***ing Comaneci and within seconds the New Years countdown was on , fireworks were going off and gorgeous* drunk women were pashing blokes all around me....as I lay howling in agony on the ground with vicious red welts a mouthful of sand.

The moral of the story ? ...Stay away from Portsea.

One of my favourite moments was when Hawkins unexpectedly gave the shot on goal to Tuohy, who duly missed. "Here, ex Carlton spud, I don't want to embarrass myself in front of 95,000 people, let them laugh at you instead."

In response to standing room quality.
I flew in from Qld with my young bloke and he and my daughter (who unfortunately lives in Richmond now ) had standing room spots behind my seat in front row possie on the fence in M9.

Verdict: absolutely shite! Whatever you do, don't bother turning up for a standing room spot

Alternatively, turn up and have way above expectations view of the game.
Just be aware that there are two/three spots reserved on the first step - two permanent and the third for an old bloke running up from the fence for group hugs.

Channel 7 news featured an interview with immortal Royce Hart in Hobart.
He suffers back and leg pains and seldom travels but would keen to attend a GF if the opportunity arises.
