Auditing of annual reports is quite different than scruitineering an election. There is no need to pay top dollar for this kind of thing.

I meant to say it makes me more confident that AFL clubs are compelled to use big end companies for auditing elections as it appears that is the case for annual reports.

We've just had an election run by Computershare. Another option is the AEC. You don't audit elections.

PWC announced the result in 2004. Going by the announcement they were the Returning Officer.

2004 was postal voting with boxes filled in by hand. I don't think Computershare would have been an option.

Computershare were founded in the 1970s and would certainly have been an option as they have been doing these things for years. PWC couldn't have been the returning officer as it would have been illegal. The club threw away money in 2004 by going to PWC.

I thought they only did online voting which wasn't an option in the postal 2004 election but that's an assumption on my part based on not being able to find info on them running elections back then.

It is a bugger when facts get in the way of a good discussion...

Looks to me like that election was therefore illegal.

Logically, that means everything since then is void and all positions must be declared vacant for an EGM.

A good quote, but all the current rules and guides about returning officers indicate that they must be persons -- including those that the club has currently. Perhaps the law or standards have changed since 2004, but it may just have been that a PWC partner was the returning officer.
