The problem with Edwards is he does 3 very good things and then 2 putrid things.

This is why his rotations need to be more carefully managed. After he does 3 good things, he should be benched for the period during which he would normally do 2 putrid things, then come back on for 3 more good things.

    Some problems are easily solved.

If Prestia can consistently curb a gun like Zorko, this is of immense importance as we approach finals. It seems the inclusion of Miles as a main extractor enabled Prestia to be given the specific task of stopping Zorko. Does anyone else think Prestia was deliberately given this accountable role partly as a response to his very unaccountable jogging the previous week? Seems more than just a coincidence.

The correct figures, the wrong way around.

But, he's got away with it all his career thanks to our sparse list over the years, with our abundance of small forwards now, if we want to be a more
consistent unit, it's time to move him on, as @Rumpole suggested ;)

Expert opinions please. Did Miles' role contribute to the votes awarded to these other mids? If so, in what ways?

Prestia did not only curb Zorko, he accumulated a lot of possessions too.

It will be interesting to see how he and Miles combine against a good mid field this week. The signs are good so far.

3:31 to go in the last quarter, Rockliff punching Grimes in the guts off the ball. Maybe he'll get a gig at Melbourne next year.

He did 3 things wrong for the game. Many times he makes no errors at all, but you'd still have people trying to tell you every time he got the ball he coughed it up.

    The 3 things wrong were:
    1. A bad set shot at goal [plenty others did the same, of course, several much worse]
    2. He went to kick a short pass which strangely went straight to the opposition. It was a shocker.
    3. Tried to hit a hard handball to two rfc players that would have sent one of them away unopposed through the corridor, but McLuggage anticipated it, stuck out his hand and knocked it down, and Brisbane got a goal out of it. Most of the time his high risk handballs lead to high reward

On the other hand, he got 1 vote in the coaches award, so there must have been a lot more very good things than a 3/2 ratio. Let's see. How about the following as a few examples:
    - excellent roving then inspired handball to Riewoldt, who ran into goal
    - Clean hands taking Cotch's handball despite it being behind him, then good snap for a goal
    - nice fake, change of mind, and snappy HB to Cotch in a crowded goal square, who goals
    - won a centre clearance followed by a perfectly timed handball to Nankervis running through
    - took an excellent overhead mark
    - 21 disposals at 81% efficiency, which is a good tally for someone playing the majority of the game on the fwd line
    - 9 score involvements (3rd in the team), 3 goal assists (2nd best), equal 3rd in clearances

Dunc. Welcome back. Would be great to have you post more regularly on things that wasn't Edwards' protection. Post about he game as a whole as well please.

I'll have a chip at you on the first one. A missed set shot that results in a point is a point. There are no "worse" ones unless they don't score. The distance between the goals is immense and his set shot kicking needs work. Way too inconsistent for a player of his experience.

In all fairness, it does Edwards a disservice to pigeon hole him as a small forward. He's great in traffic when allowed to play on instinct. But, yes, his regular stuff-ups do stand out in stark contrast to the sublime bits.

If I can use another traffic analogy, Edwards could weave his way across the Western Ring Road in peak hour without incident, but then walk against the red in a quiet street and get hit by a bus.

Unfortunately Edwards needs 'protecting' as he gets a raw deal on the internet, especially on PRE.

I would have thought missing from 15 m out is a lot worse than missing a shot from 45 to 50 m out.

Two time AA reps and Coleman winners and JD Medallists get more leeway than Edwards.
Rightly or wrongly and I've been critical of his form at times this year. I mean, he was pretty rubbish last week with some of his turnovers (no, he certainly wasn't on his own).

And I was Lids' biggest fan and advocate for a few years. Imagine how I felt having to defend a 2 time AA and JD medallist and a bloke that finished top 5 in the JDM more times than I've had hot dinners...
