Kingsley and Caracella were key tacticians for our game day setup and tactics. Are they easily replaceable?

If not, why did we release Caracella, who I believe had another year on his contract, to take up another assistant role? If it was a senior role, understandable.

Getting new Assistant Coaches in prevents staleness. Some are more replaceable than others but I think a constant churning just like that of the playing list is a good thing. Hardwick et al already have their IP someone new may bring something different.
These departing coaches will take some of our IP which is one part of the equation, the second is do the clubs they move to have the appropriate cattle to make it work.
We will continue to evolve for standing still means we will be overtaken

1. The Gold Coast Football Club made an offer to Restricted Free Agent Brandon Ellis (Richmond) on Friday October 4. The Richmond Football Club elected not to match the offer on Saturday October 5 and Brandon Ellis is now able to join the Gold Coast SUNS immediately.

Based on the player’s age and the contract offer, the AFL advised the Richmond Football Club the club would be eligible for a Round Two compensation selection, which would be number 39 on the current provisional draft selection order.

2. The Brisbane Lions Football Club signed Unrestricted Free Agent Cameron Ellis-Yolmen (Adelaide Crows) on Saturday October 5.

Based on the player’s age and the contract offer, the AFL advised the Adelaide Football Club the club would be eligible for a Round Three compensation selection, which would be number 47 on the current provisional draft selection order.

What an absolute joke that is !

What other sport in the world has a secret formula to govern draft selections ?

The secret formula might as well be called the..'we'll hand out draft picks to whoever the f**k we want , without transparency or recourse' formula.

The AFL will have to change it. They can call it The Ellis/Ellis Yolmen/Lycett clause.

Forgetting for a minute that Brandon Ellis is a 2 time premiership player , whilst Ellis -Yolmen is a rookie who's struggled to get a game for most of his career and Lycett has been much the same... consider this >>

B.ELLIS - ....
AGE 26 , YRS PLAYED 8 , GAMES 176 , AVE GAMES 22 AVE DISP 22 , GOALS 56 , DRAFT PICK # 15 COMPO PICK # 39
S. LYCETT
- .AGE 26 , YRS PLAYED 8 , GAMES 75 , ..AVE GAMES 9 , .AVE DISP 7 , .GOALS 45 , DRAFT PICK # 29 COMPO PICK # 20
E-YOLMEN
- AGE 26 , YRS PLAYED 5 , GAMES 39 , ..AVE GAMES 8 , AVE DISP 19 , GOALS 15 , ROOKIE PICK # 31 COMPO PICK # 47

Three-way trade: The Geelong Cats trade Tim Kelly, its Round Three Selection (currently number 57) and its Future Round Three Selection to the West Coast Eagles for its Round One Selection (currently number 14), its Round Two Selection (currently number 24), its Round Two Selection (currently number 33) and its Future Round One Selection. The West Coast Eagles trade its Round Three Selection (currently number 57) – on traded from Geelong Cats – to Essendon for its Round Three Selection (currently number 52). The Geelong Cats trade its Round Two Selection (currently number 33) – on traded from the West Coast Eagles – to Essendon for its Round Two Selection (currently number 37).

I really don't get why Essendon was included in this trade. Sure, they received an earlier Round 2 selection but how does that help Geelong or West Coast?

Can someone explain this?

We don't have to use all draft picks I don't think - we just have to make 3 list changes per year as far as I am aware.

I reckon it was probably driven by West Coast. "Hey Geelong, we don't think it's fair you should have pick #33 and we are stuck with pick #57. We want a slightly higher pick. #52 will do." Forcing Geelong to drop down the pecking order a little. Small cheese I know, someone at WC had a pyrrhic victory.

Unless we trade picks for an up grade it looks like we go to the draft which will get affected by the bidding process.

However all good for mine. Always think it is good to draft several kids each year. And especially since our recruiters have been picking up some gems over last few years

True
In addition, I know most people are focusing on our "number one draft pick" returning next year (Rance). But Stack and Graham are both first 22 locks for mine barring injury. Plus Naish, RCD, Jack Ross and even youngsters like CCJ and Turner have proven to be above VFL level this year.

Yes it is looking all good for us in players pushing up from the reserves.

The club has done well with RCD. Put him in the center position in the twos when he was not ready and just kept playing him there. The first rays of sunshine from him came in the finals and GF and another year of development he will be ready (if not before then).

CCJ has big wraps and again looks good for a couple of years time.

Ross is ready now. You missed Higgins in your list but obviously he has a bit to do to prove he is ready to return.

Really looking forward to who we pick with #19 as the thoughts are there will still be a good one there. The longer picks need to unearth some talls.

So with the draft a few weeks away. What's the type of player you think we will take at our first pick? I didn't mind the look Trent Bianco. Where do you see our list weakness. I feel we a fairly balanced and good depth even though we lost a few depth players.

I think key backs is our main concern, Rance is 30 and Grimes and Astbury are 29 next year.
Garthwaite, Miller and Balta are the replacements but that remains to be seen and Balta we really seem to don’t know where he fits.

I’d target key tall backs and even a Forward as Jack is 30 and and Lynch 28 next year and the 2 who can replace them are Jones and Chol again both we don’t know how they will go

4 guys I read up on yesterday who will be there around our 38-41 picks are

Georgiades - quick tall forward from WA strong overhead

Schoenberg- hard clearance player from SA
Aves 27 touches and 6 clearances

Cumberland- hard running backman but part of Bris academy, good tackler also so maybe Houli replacement

Jeka- 198cm key position who is contested marking beast, says if he gets there first he marks it
