The Australian Football League (AFL) today distributed an updated list of Restricted, Unrestricted and Delisted Free Agents to the 18 clubs across the competition.

Under the rules that were agreed between the AFL and AFL Players Association (AFLPA) in February 2010, Restricted and Unrestricted Free Agents may consider offers from rival Clubs during the post-season period, following the 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

Under the AFL Player Rules, an Unrestricted Free Agent may automatically move to the Club of his choice. An offer to a Restricted Free Agent may be matched by his Club. Should his original Club match the offer, and the Restricted Free Agent Player does not wish to remain with his original Club, he must enter the National Draft or seek a trade. Compensation in the form of AFL allocated draft picks will apply to clubs with a net loss of Free Agents, based on the formula determined by the AFL.

In 2019 we see the implementation of the following changes to Free Agency previously agreed between the AFL and AFLPA. The new conditions are as follows:
  • The condition that a player must have come out of contract after eight years to then qualify for Unrestricted Free Agency at 10 years has been removed (irrespective of when a player had signed his previous contract, all ten-year players are Unrestricted Free Agents);
  • A Player who at any time becomes or has previously become a Free Agent will be a Free Agent at the end of each subsequent Standard Playing Contract. Furthermore, they will be considered an Unrestricted Free Agent regardless of their ranking on the Club’s Primary List; and
  • Any Player taken in the 2019 Mid-Season Rookie Draft, who was previously delisted by an AFL Club, has been included on the 2019 Free Agency List.
Below is the 2019 Free Agency List which includes Restricted, Unrestricted and Delisted Free Agents (currently on Club lists) across the competition.

Please note: A final list will be issued prior to the 2019 Restricted and Unrestricted Free Agency period commencing Friday October 4.

Brandon Ellis apparently put talks on hold til seasons end with Carl, North and Ess keen on him

In the article it has a true statement that it would be hard going to either blues or north not knowing who their coaches are or how you’d fit in
