Round 7 - 19:25 AEST, May 04, 2019

the Dogs started the season well but have faltered in recent games , are they going to bounce back ?

in recent years they have a good record against us , will that be relevant this time ?

We will lose Jack , who comes in Bolton , Townsend , both had big games in the VFL  ?  someone else

Astbury will be proving his fitness after a rolled ankle versus the Dees , who would come in for him , Garthwaite ?

Foot is grey has +6.5 free kick differential , the best  ?  we have the lowest or close to the lowset and has been that way for well over a season (back me up here Black )
will we get free kicked off the paddock ?

RE: Richmond V Footscray

Astbury was pretty much ruled out by dimma today.

This game has danger written all over it.

Our undermanned and young midfield (apart from Dusty) up against seasoned players Bont, McRae & Libba. Our manic pressure needs to be up to force turnovers, then rebound. If we are unable to do this, their forwards will get a good supply from those 3.

Astbury & Riewoldt out - unsurprising

Bolton & Menadue - in Bolton - no surprise Menadue - a little getting the nod ahead of Garthwaite and Townsend

Footscray - no change , stability is always a plus for a team

Readie9 "This game has danger written all over it."

The media is all tipping Us - danger

They had a great game against Collingwood then went real flat - danger of a bounce back

We had two concerning losses followed by a real spirited win over Pork , then two real solid wins over the Swans and Melb. - danger of us hitting a flat spot especially our young brigade

I'll say Tigers by 24 +
While beating Swans & Dees don't read as good form , both side brought real intent to those games and we were working with real disruptions thru injury and blooding a lot of young players so those wins have real merit

We will have studied the Dogs Pies game and be ready for a real tussle

We are building to more like our old form

Astbury out isn't as bad for us given the size of the Dogs forwards and the form of Grimmes , Broad & Vlastuin

The ins of Bolton & Menadue will keep the vibe of the team up , they will want to do well , their team mates will know this and want them to do well
I don't think Balta's desire will drop off , that's him so I wont buy into we are ready for a flat one

The free differential thing , the team with the best versus the team with the worst , will the umps decide the outcome ?
Don't think so , we record wins in most while getting a hiding in the free kick dept,
couple that with they lose most games while doing really well on the free kick sheet

It would have to really ramp up for things to change

Lynch will attract a crowd , Bolton was superb at lowering his eyes with forward 50 entries in the Swans game

Too much pressure on Lynch with Jack out ? He is used to the pressure of the main target , he is a mature player who looks like he is on a mission
the longer break might have him cherry ripe for this

If others follow his lead we could really shred the game

Being Capt. really brings out something in Edwards

Our back 6 , despite losing Astbury , are in superb form and wont drop their heads
Houli has had a real presence since returning from injury , but his hands weren't as clean as they can be , that touch will come back with consecutive games
watch out Bulldogs he is playing with hunger and BOG performance from Houli isn't far away , this could be the game

If you are ballsey take Tigers 40 + :)
I've gone 24 + in my multis

Go Tiges

A really poor half of footy. Very lucky to be only 13 down - Stack probably our best player.

Martin is making us look foolish for paying him the big $$$ with some of his efforts tonight.

In our time of need, the crap he has dished up is totally unacceptable.

If we pick Menadue again, it’s back to the old play with 21 thing. Our mids haven’t consistently hunted a stoppage ground ball at all tonight. So reactive and we’ve been cut to pieces. Dogs uncontested mark after uncontested mark.
Shocking display tonight.

Broad and Menadue have to be dropped. They just have to go...totally unacceptable what those dished up tonight.

Our mids were flogged at the stoppages.

Gave up in the last qtr. Thank god the Dogs put the cue in the rack. Should have been an 80 pt loss.

Won’t get near Freo next week.

Our third thrashing for the year, this time against ordinary opposition.

I was surprised at our team selection this week, we lose JR and Astbury for 2 smalls in the pristine Docklands conditions was just dumb planning. How many similar players of the Bolton, Baker, Castagna, Menadue, Higgins, Rioli until it's over kill. Townsend up forward would have been handy as a target and defensively on Wood, where Castagna was terrible and badly beaten.

With such a lack of height we really needed Caddy to step up but he was mostly unsighted. We may have run Naughton into form as we did Cameron. With Astbury gone, on top of Rance, we were expecting way too much from Grimes and Broad.

Lynch was woeful all night.

Dusty........what has happened to him? A genuine A grader playing like a C grader this year, that dropped mark summed up his year.

I agree on tonights performance, Menadue is not up to it, he seemed too timid at the contest, although I think he should be playing more like an outside line breaker than a defender. His pace is not being utilised.

Happy with Grimes, Stack, Lambert and Flossy's game. Balta was good and bad, I think his stint in defence will do him good, but he has a way to go.

The scoreboard flattered us, we should have lost this game by 70+ points.

Lots of disappointing things happening lately

Injuries number 1

The guys who don’t step up with our stars out
Guys like Caddy, Lambert, McIntosh, Ellis, Broad don’t go another level which they should be doing

Tom Lynch it just isn’t going too well at the minute so he needs a spell in the 2’s or to bring in a Moore or Townsend as a second focal point so Lynch isn’t teamed Up on

Then that comes on MC why are they leaving everything up to an undone Lynch who they know will get teamed up on ?
Hardwick even said it will take Lynch awhile to get used to our style and our players his so why isn’t a Towner or Moore in to chip him out

Guys who get gigs and should take it and run with it are disappointing
Bolton and Menadue aren’t showing they can be afl guys

Dusty isn’t Dusty, he seems to not be trying

Castagna isn’t playing well so drop him

It seems our season is only existing with the new guys Ross and Stack who are showing up plenty of the senior guys
Add Baker to those 2 as well as he is busting his arse each week

Of the senior blokes Grimes and Edwards have stood up and gone another level couldn’t say the same about anyone else
Vlastuin and Houli and Prestia on par

Higgins hasn’t stepped up but prob getting more attention than last year

Def need Moore or Towner in to help forward line
[hr]
And if Collier Dawkins and Naish perform again today I’d have them debut next week
These kids with passion are showing more than the older guys

A lot of those guys you mentioned have played well at times, like Lynch against Port and Caddy vs Sydney, Prestia and Ellis and others too.

Against the teams that bring real heat, all the players except Stack and Grimes have been sub standard in their endeavours. We really miss the three leaders in games like these, who steady the ship and lead by example in taking the fight up to meet the challenge.

Higgins is being played more on the ball this year, and obviously has a way to go to make it as an on baller.

Docklands certainly does not suit our style of play as much as the G does, , and conversely does suit the Bulldogs. Our MC picked a wet MCG team on Saturday night, they should have known better and did not help our chances.

Hopefully this was the reality check our club needed to lift in all areas after a few wins against mediocre opposition recently.

Yeah but one of the best teams of the Comp doesn’t have its players playing well maybe one week for the year they play consistently good with maybe 1-2 down games of the 7
Majority are not playing well at all, they’ve had more bad than good

Vines said:
Lynch ain’t playing VFL...
And there lies one of our biggest problems so if you don’t play him vfl to get fit and in form then you give him a chop out with another target in the forward line to stop him being double and triple teamed which happened 99% of the time we go inside 50 to him

Townsend worked a beauty when presented with the role in 2017 when they teamed Jack so why isn’t he given a go again ??

Someone must be given the roll or someone come in to try contain Fyfe as well or another hiding is coming, we ( the MC. ) must learn we can’t let these superstars just run amok and do what they want

Agree 100%.
Why Bontempelli was left to dominate head to head against Prestia was mind boggling and actually seemed a bit arrogant to me. Dusty battled his arse off to get 25 touches, 20 of which were rushed and under immense pressure. We left their superstar to do what he wanted.
