Houli re-signs

Richmond veteran and 2019 All-Australian Bachar Houli has re-signed with the Club for another year.

The 2017 premiership hero will continue his decorated career in the Yellow and Black in season 2020.

At the age of 31, Houli has enjoyed an outstanding 2019 campaign so far, averaging 27.7 disposals (ranked equal first at the Club), 4.8 rebound-50’s (ranked second at the Club), 4.3 score involvements and 491.6 metres gained (ranked eighth in the league) per game.

Earning an All-Australian blazer this season for the first time in his 13-year AFL career, the damaging half-back also received the Yiooken Award for being judged best afield during this year’s Dreamtime at the ‘G match.

“Bachar is an outstanding person and player, and we love having him at our football club,” Richmond List Manager, Blair Hartley said.

“He’s having an exceptional season, and we’re looking forward to him continuing to have an impact next year both on and off the field.”

Houli’s contribution extends far beyond the football field – he’s a positive and influential role model for the Islamic community.

In partnership with Richmond, Houli has launched the Bachar Houli Foundation based at the Swinburne Centre, to continue his football and leadership programs for Islamic youth.

In just seven years Bachar Houli Programming has developed a reach of over 35,000 participants nationally, using football as a vehicle to help young Australian Muslim boys and girls to develop their leadership capacity and grow culturally.

“I’m very happy to continue my football career at Richmond, and to launch the Foundation that will support Islamic youth to develop their leadership and cultural connection,” Houli said.

“I’m really proud of the work we’ve achieved so far with all of our programs, and I’m incredibly excited to take our work to the next level with the establishment of the Foundation with the Richmond Football Club.”
